Figure 1. AutoCAD is a sophisticated CAD application that supports both command-based and point-and-click interaction.
AutoCAD consists of three main elements: the application window, which is presented to the user on the screen; the drawing environment, which is the area where the user interacts with the application; and the database of drawing data, which contains the drawing content. The three elements interact with each other, and each of the elements can be in two states. In the default state, the elements appear to be inactive, or invisible. When the user interacts with the drawing environment, the elements are in the active state, and the elements update to reflect the user’s actions.
The AutoCAD user interface (UI) consists of a set of default elements. The first element to appear on the screen is the “AutoCAD Design Center,” which contains the title bar, menus, and other visual cues that indicate the application’s status and main features. The next element is the “Application Window,” which contains the main user interface. The Application Window has title bars for the left side, the right side, and the top of the screen, as well as a menu bar across the top and a status bar at the bottom. The status bar includes the application name, date, user’s name, and company name. To the right of the Application Window is the “View” menu, which includes options for viewing the drawing and drawing content (see Figure 2). The menu bar is dynamic; when the user clicks on any of the items in the menu bar, the corresponding menu appears at the top of the screen. When the user chooses a menu, the corresponding menu items appear at the top of the screen and the menu disappears.
The drawing environment (the drawing canvas) is the area in which the user will make changes and add content to a drawing. It consists of drawing objects, data windows, annotation tools, drawing editors, user-defined commands, and other components.
The database is a repository for drawing objects, drawing content, annotation tools, data windows, user-defined commands, the drawing environment, and other user-created entities.
Figure 2. The User Interface contains the tools and features for users to create, view, and modify a drawing.
The AutoCAD design center is the hub for managing the data in the database and for interacting with the drawing environment. The design center consists of a large navigation bar to the left

**_Chapter 2: Project Type and Structure_**
Autodesk ProjectWise provides a variety of tools for working with your project documents. These tools can help you manage project information, create a new project, organize the documents, create cross-references, and configure the presentation of the files. With ProjectWise, you can design new projects using a visual tool called ProjectWise Architect. You can import your design into other tools, such as Revit and AutoCAD. ProjectWise also allows you to create your own presets, templates, and project types. This chapter explains how to set up and use these tools to create a project.
What’s New in the?
Create a style guide from templates, let users apply their own tags, and import comments from various sites to your drawings (video: 5:20 min.)
Design Space Deletion:
Remove the old design space and export the current one into a DWG, instead of deleting the entire current design space and losing the ability to save it (video: 2:27 min.)
Object Drawing Enhancements:
Display system objects in 3D and 2D. Take advantage of the new Inventor™ and 3D Objects design suite to build CAD, UG, and IG models.
Work Area Improvements:
Synchronize workspace draw calls with the timer to start the next job on demand. Use the new queuing feature to assign multiple users to the same drawing and project.

Explore the details of these new AutoCAD features
The new edition of AutoCAD, released today, is the first one to ship without the same level of backward compatibility that was in the previous version, AutoCAD 2018.
You can still get older commands, but if you’ve recently made a design change to your drawing, you’ll be prompted with an error message and will have to close and reopen it to make the change.
What’s new in AutoCAD?
This new release has over 170 new features in CAD, IG, and UG.
The majority of the changes are updates to existing objects or major updates to the way Autodesk engineers the applications.
Most of the new features are in AutoCAD. Most of the user-interface changes are done for easier use with tablets and other mobile devices.
